Environment: Air & Energy

The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is committed to improving air quality in the Baltimore region by reducing diesel-related emissions and conserving energy in MPA buildings.

Among the successful projects is the Diesel Equipment Upgrade Program. This program helps owners of dray trucks, locomotives, and cargo-handling equipment replace or retrofit older models with newer models that reduce emissions. For more information, or to submit an application, click here.

To promote energy conservation, MPA facilities are being upgraded with cleaner, more efficient systems for heating, cooling, and lighting.

By consistently upgrading cargo handling equipment and heavy-duty diesel vehicles and adopting state-of-the-art operational technologies, the MPA has continued to lower emissions related to the Port’s activities.
